This tour is suited for the adrenaline seeker and outdoor type. Full of adventure, experience a full day hiking and kayaking trip, rock climbing, mountain biking and surfing, while also enjoying Irish music, great food experiences and a well-deserved pint of Guinness in local authentic Irish pubs. No previous experience required for activities that are all led by trained and experienced Rural Adventure guides.

Day 1 UNCOVER THE ENERGETIC EAST

Glendalough in the Wicklow Mountains

Travel into the Wicklow mountains to take on the Spinc trail for a 3.5 hour hike walking on rocky trails, boardwalks and forest roads to finish at a 6th century monastic ruin that is Glendalough monastery and round tower.

Fat Bike Adventures

Overlooking the Wicklow and Dublin coastline, set off on this 2 hour off-road mountain bike experience on unique stylish fat bikes.

Carlingford

Enjoy an overnight in the quaint coastal village of Carlingford, challenge yourself to eating some fresh oysters and wash them down with a creamy Pint of Guinness (don't worry, we won't force you to eat them if you are not a fan).

Day 2 FIND HIKERS HEAVEN

Boat trip into Northern Ireland over Carlingford Lough

Start the day off on the car ferry across the scenic Carlingford Lough into Northern Ireland with mountains on both sides of the lough to get you in the mood for the days hike.

Hiking in the Mourne Mountains

4 hours round trip to the summit of Slieve Binnian with steep climbs and rough terrain on one of Ireland’ largest and favourite mountain ranges. Hiking boots and good waterproof gear is essential for this hike. Enjoy a great sense of achievement when crossing the last style at the end of the day.


Day 3 EXPLORE THE LAKE DISTRICT BY KAYAK

Full day Kayaking

Challenge yourself to a full day of kayaking. Discover Co Cavan’s lakes and rivers among a multi green drumlin landscape. Stop off on uninhabited islands for lunch with coffee prepared on portable stove and then out to Clough Oughter Castle ruin located on an island and only accessible by water.

Rural Adventure Tours home farm experience

In the evening, travel to our rural organic farm and home for a personal experience. Meet with friends and family who prepare a welcome meal. Marcus or one of our guides will lead in an outdoor acoustic music session around the fire (weather permitting) and tell stories of how the farm started. We also invite all of our groups that visit our farm to plant a tree for environmental and symbolic reasons. Leave a part of your tour here always and help towards a greener future.

Day 4 EXTREME IT OUT IN IRELAND

Rock Climbing & Abseiling (Rappelling)

Challenge yourself to try rock climbing and abseiling (rappelling) located in a magnificent gorge in the Marble Arch UNESCO Geopark. This is a fabulous activity to get immersed into the Irish outdoors and no previous experience is required.

Hike the "Stairway to Heaven" to the Summit of Cuilcagh Mt

The Cuilcagh Boardwalk Trail also nicknamed the Stairway to Heaven Walk is located in Co. Fermanagh, Northern Ireland. The route meanders through one of the largest expanses of blanket bog in Northern Ireland, traversing over trails, a wooden boardwalk and then onto a unique wooden staircase that takes you to the summit of Cuilcagh mountain. It has been an Instagram and social media hit and attracts thousands of walkers every year.

Glencar Lake & Waterfall

Just before hitting the West coast’s Wild Atlantic Way, have one last stop in Ireland's Hidden Heartlands at Glencar Lake & Waterfall where lake and mountains meet and a valley that’s beauty resonates.

Overnight in the coastal town of Strandhill

This small surf town has a lot to offer with great food, cafes and pubs with it's easy going but fun atmosphere. End the day with a walk along the sand dunes catching the sunset over the Atlantic, hit some of the local bars and then possibly venture to nearby Sligo City if you fancy a late one and mighty music.

Day 5 WAKE UP TO THE WILD ATLANTIC WAY

Surfing in Strandhill

A well-deserved sleep in or hit them wild Atlantic waves for a morning surf to start the final day with a burst of energy.

Gleniff Horseshoe

A stunning 10 km (6 mile) single lane loop drive surrounded by spectacular mountain views & roadside streams, the Gleniff Horseshoe charm takes you back in time and away from it all.

Eagles Rock

A short hike to view Eagles Rock, Ireland’s highest free-standing tower in an awe-inspiring landscape and a photographer’s dream.

Drumshambo Shed Distillery

Stop off enroute back to Dublin City for lunch in Drumshambo and what better way to finish this tour but sampling one of Ireland’s most popular Gins or Whiskey. Visit the home of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin and Drumshanbo Single Pot Irish whiskey and join "The curious journey of the curious mind" tour at the distillery.
